Artsix – Vessels 2025
After Tang Dynasty Shipwreck Octagonal Gold Cup – a vessel discovered near Java with 8 sided sculptures of musicians and dancers. Hand sculptured reinterpretation with 8 figures of Artsix collaborative participants; singer, sculptor, painter, percussionist, producer, animator, multidisciplinary artist, harp player.
With Artsix purpose to bring together creatives across the country of varied art forms and backgrounds in order to trade skills and collaborate on original NFT artworks. Investigation into trading led to the Tang Shipwreck or otherwise known as the Belitung shipwreck, was a 9th-century Arab dhow trading vessel that sank around 826–850 AD off Belitung Island in the Java Sea, Indonesia.
It contained over 60,000 to 70,000 Tang dynasty artifacts, making it the largest single collection of Tang artifacts found outside China. Dominated by mass-produced Changsha ceramic bowls, white wares, Yue celadons, rare gold and silver items (including the exquisite octagonal gold cup), bronze mirrors, and early Chinese blue-and-white dishes painted with Iranian cobalt. It was found on the Maritime Silk Route: and proved that robust, direct maritime trading networks existed between Tang dynasty China and the Abbasid Caliphate in the Middle East centuries earlier than previously believed.
Installation of Vessel sculpture collaboration with Kav Temperley in Artsource residency studio for activation during Artsix collaborative development week.
